Courses
B.Sc. Medical Biotechnology
Course Description
B.Sc. Medical Biotechnology is an undergraduate programme that applies biological science and technology to human health, disease diagnosis, treatment, and medical research. The curriculum includes cell biology, biochemistry, microbiology, genetics, molecular biology, immunology, medical biotechnology, genetic engineering, recombinant DNA technology, bioprocess technology, bioinformatics, diagnostics, vaccine technology, stem-cell biology, and research methodology. Students learn laboratory techniques used in molecular diagnostics, biopharmaceutical production, genetic research, and healthcare innovation.
Internships
Students undergo training in medical biotechnology laboratories, diagnostic laboratories, hospital research units, biotechnology companies, vaccine-production units, pharmaceutical firms, and research institutes. Internship activities include DNA extraction, PCR-based analysis, gel electrophoresis, ELISA, cell-culture techniques, microbial culture, immunological assays, molecular diagnostics, data documentation, and biosafety practices. Students may also participate in research projects related to genetics, infectious diseases, cancer biology, or biopharmaceuticals.
Jobs / Scope in Government & Law Enforcement
Graduates can apply for laboratory technician, scientific assistant, research assistant, and biotechnology officer roles in government medical colleges, research institutes, public-health laboratories, forensic science laboratories, and biotechnology regulatory bodies. Opportunities exist in DNA fingerprinting units, forensic biology divisions, toxicology laboratories, disease-surveillance programmes, and public-health agencies. Their molecular-biology skills are useful in forensic DNA analysis, biological-evidence examination, and outbreak investigation.
Jobs / Scope in Healthcare & Hospitals
Medical-biotechnology graduates work as molecular-biology technicians, diagnostic-laboratory technologists, research associates, biopharmaceutical production assistants, genetic-testing assistants, and clinical-research coordinators. Employers include hospitals, diagnostic laboratories, cancer-research centres, fertility clinics, vaccine companies, pharmaceutical firms, biotechnology companies, and clinical-research organisations.
Career Prospects
Career paths include molecular-biotechnology specialist, research associate, clinical-research professional, diagnostic-product specialist, biopharmaceutical executive, bioinformatics analyst, and laboratory manager. Higher study options include M.Sc. Medical Biotechnology, M.Sc. Biotechnology & Bioinformatics, M.Sc. Genetics, M.Sc. Microbiology, M.Sc. Bioinformatics, and Ph.D. programmes. Growth in molecular diagnostics, personalised medicine, vaccines, biologics, and genetic research creates strong career demand.
