Course Description

Bachelor of Anaesthesia & Operation Theatre Technology (B.AOTT) is a four-year allied-health programme that prepares students to assist anaesthesiologists, surgeons, and operating-theatre teams during surgical and critical-care procedures. The curriculum includes human anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, anaesthesia equipment, operation-theatre techniques, surgical instrumentation, sterilisation, patient monitoring, infection control, emergency management, and post-anaesthesia care. Students gain hands-on training in preparing operation theatres, handling anaesthesia machines, maintaining surgical instruments, and supporting safe patient care before, during, and after surgery.

Internships
Students complete supervised clinical postings in operation theatres, anaesthesia departments, post-anaesthesia care units, intensive care units, emergency departments, CSSD, and surgical wards. Training includes OT setup, anaesthesia-machine operation, patient positioning, sterilisation, instrument handling, monitoring equipment use, assistance during surgical procedures, and emergency preparedness. Internships are typically arranged in multi-speciality hospitals, trauma centres, day-care surgery units, and specialty surgical hospitals.

Jobs / Scope in Government & Law Enforcement
Graduates can apply for anaesthesia technician, operation-theatre technician, surgical assistant, CSSD technician, and OT supervisor posts in government hospitals, medical colleges, ESIC hospitals, railway hospitals, defence medical establishments, and state health services. Opportunities also exist in disaster-response teams, emergency medical services, and trauma-care units operated by public institutions. The role is important in government surgical camps, mass-casualty response, and public-health emergency preparedness.

Jobs / Scope in Healthcare & Hospitals
B.AOTT graduates work as anaesthesia technologists, operation-theatre technologists, surgical technologists, CSSD coordinators, recovery-room technologists, OT managers, and critical-care support technicians. They are employed by multi-speciality hospitals, trauma centres, cardiac hospitals, cancer hospitals, fertility centres, day-care surgical units, and medical-device companies.

Career Prospects
With experience, professionals can advance to senior OT technologist, anaesthesia supervisor, OT manager, infection-control coordinator, clinical trainer, or hospital operations roles. Higher study options include M.AOTT, M.Sc. Anaesthesia Technology, hospital administration, and healthcare-quality programmes. Demand is driven by the expansion of surgical care, trauma services, minimally invasive procedures, and specialised hospitals.
