Course Description

Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT) is a five-year professional programme that trains students to assess, diagnose, treat, and prevent physical disabilities, movement disorders, pain, and functional limitations. The curriculum includes anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, exercise therapy, electrotherapy, orthopaedic physiotherapy, neurological physiotherapy, cardiorespiratory physiotherapy, paediatric physiotherapy, sports physiotherapy, community rehabilitation, and clinical research. Students learn to design individualised rehabilitation plans using exercise, manual therapy, electrotherapy, assistive devices, and patient education.

Internships
BPT includes compulsory clinical internships in orthopaedic, neuro, cardiorespiratory, paediatric, sports, community-health, and intensive-care rehabilitation settings. Students practise patient assessment, therapeutic exercise prescription, electrotherapy application, gait training, post-surgical rehabilitation, pain management, and home-exercise planning. Internships are conducted in hospitals, rehabilitation centres, sports academies, special schools, geriatric-care centres, and community-health programmes.

Jobs / Scope in Government & Law Enforcement
Graduates can apply for physiotherapist posts in government hospitals, medical colleges, district hospitals, ESIC, Railways, defence medical services, sports authorities, and state disability-welfare departments. Opportunities also exist in police and defence physical-rehabilitation units, prison healthcare services, and occupational-health programmes. Physiotherapists support injury prevention, disability rehabilitation, workplace ergonomics, and community-based rehabilitation.

Jobs / Scope in Healthcare & Hospitals
BPT graduates work as clinical physiotherapists, rehabilitation therapists, sports physiotherapists, neuro physiotherapists, orthopaedic physiotherapists, cardiopulmonary physiotherapists, and paediatric physiotherapists. Employment settings include hospitals, ICU rehabilitation units, orthopaedic clinics, neuro-rehabilitation centres, sports medicine centres, geriatric-care facilities, corporate wellness programmes, and home-healthcare services.

Career Prospects
Physiotherapists can build careers in clinical practice, sports rehabilitation, neuro-rehabilitation, ergonomics, academia, research, and private clinic ownership. Higher study options include Master of Physiotherapy (MPT) with specialisations such as orthopaedics, neurology, cardiopulmonary care, sports, paediatrics, and community rehabilitation. The ageing population, rising lifestyle disorders, sports participation, and demand for non-surgical pain management support strong career growth.
